ABOUT STEINAR BJÖRN HELGASON
Steinar Björn Helgason is an Icelandic drummer with roots in the Reykjavík music scene stretching back to the mid-1980s. A member of the Singletons, he provides the rhythmic backbone for one of Iceland's most active blues outfits.
Helgason's musical journey began in the 1985–86 season with Presleyvinafélagið, a band formed from the Árbær and Breiðholt school bands that focused on the music of Elvis Presley. He went on to play drums for Vaxandi (1986–87) in the Reykjavík capital area, developing the versatile, groove-oriented style that would later serve him well in the blues.
With the Singletons — alongside vocalist Hannes Birgir Hjálmarsson, guitarist Gunnar Örn Sigurðsson, bassist Árni Björnsson, and multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Ólason — Helgason has performed at venues including Harpa Concert Hall, Tónabíó, and Café Rosenberg, in collaboration with the Reykjavík Blues Society.
