The Program

Song Production Masterclass

Abbey Road InstituteThere are masterclasses, and then there are experiences you will talk about for the rest of your career. The Abbey Road Institute Song Production Masterclass is firmly in the second category.

Over four intensive days, you will step inside two of the most legendary recording spaces in the world — Abbey Road Studios in St John’s Wood and Angel Studios in Islington — and follow a real song from its very first note all the way through to a finished, mastered record. Not as a student watching from the back of the room. As a participant, right in the middle of it.

The Studios

Days one and two take place in Studio 2 at Abbey Road — the room where The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and countless others made history. You will observe and participate in every stage of the recording process: microphone selection, live room setup, tracking, and recording management. The walls carry decades of sound, and you will feel it.

Days three and four move to Angel One at Angel Studios in Islington, where the mix comes to life. You will work alongside your lead engineer as the track is mixed down, refined, and finally mastered — leaving with a complete understanding of what it actually takes to finish a professional record.

Your Lead: Ben Baptie

The masterclass is led by Ben Baptie — Grammy award-winning mix engineer and record producer, and one of the most respected names working in London today. Ben began his career assisting legendary mix engineer Tom Elmhirst, working in London and at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York. Since going freelance, he has worked with Mark Ronson, U2, Lianne La Havas, Lady Gaga, Little Simz, Radiohead, Michael Kiwanuka, The Strokes, Cleo Sol, Sault, and many more. His studio, Piano Sing, is built around a Neve Genesys console and an extensive collection of analogue gear — and his ear for a record is second to none.

Mastering is handled by Conor Dalton, completing the chain from raw tracking to release-ready master.

What You Will Walk Away With

By the end of the four days, you will have witnessed and participated in the full production cycle of a real song — with insights and behind-the-scenes access that has previously been unseen by the public. You will understand not just the technical process, but the creative decisions, the communication between artists and engineers, and the feel of working at the very highest level of the industry.

“An inspiring and incredibly well designed course that gave me the best musical education I could have dreamt of. Life-altering.”
