Adam Gussow – Modern Blues Harmonica (YouTube)

Adam Gussow is a rare combination: a university professor of English and Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi, a published author on blues culture, and a street-hardened blues harmonica player who busked with Sterling "Mr. Satan" Magee in Harlem for over a decade.

His YouTube channel, Modern Blues Harmonica, is the most comprehensive free resource for blues harp on the internet. With hundreds of lessons covering everything from how to hold the harmonica to advanced overblows, tongue blocking, amplified tone and improvisation, Gussow teaches with the depth of a university lecturer and the feel of a working musician.

Lessons are long-form and conversational — often 15–30 minutes — and assume you want to understand why something works, not just mimic a pattern. He also sells structured video bundles on his website for players who want a more guided curriculum.
