“Iceland's Bluesiest Electro-Jazz Fusion”
ABOUT MÓKRÓKAR
Mókrókar emerged in early 2018 from the FÍH School of Music in Reykjavík, when keyboardist Benjamín Gísli Einarsson, guitarist Þorkell Ragnar Grétarsson and drummer Þórir Hólm Jónsson began exploring the space where jazz improvisation meets electronic production. Trumpeter Tumi Torfason joined later that year, completing a quartet whose sound defies easy classification — equal parts electro-jazz, funk, fusion and progressive groove.
The band's breakout came at Músíktilraunir 2018 (Iceland's premier battle-of-the-bands), where they placed second overall and were awarded the coveted "Bluesiest Band" title. Individual members earned prizes too: Þorkell Ragnar for Best Guitarist and Þórir Hólm for Best Drummer.
In 2020 Mókrókar released their debut album MÓK, a nine-track set blending cinematic atmosphere, hard-hitting rhythms and horn-laced improvisations. The group has since performed at Secret Solstice, Iceland Airwaves and the Reykjavik Blues Festival, building a reputation as one of the country's most inventive young ensembles.
Electro-jazz that hits like the blues — awarded "Bluesiest Band" at Iceland's Músíktilraunir 2018.
