ABOUT ÞORLEIFUR GAUKUR DAVÍÐSSON

Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson — who records under the name Davíðsson — is an Icelandic multi-instrumentalist, composer, and session musician known for his mastery of the harmonica and pedal steel guitar. Born on the island of Heimaey in the Westman Islands, he grew up surrounded by music: his uncle was a bass player in KK's (Kristján Kristjánsson) band, and visiting musicians were a constant presence in his childhood home.

He began drumming at five, picked up guitar around ten, and discovered the harmonica at thirteen — teaching himself from online lessons by Adam Gussow. By sixteen, he was performing in Reykjavík blues clubs, sometimes requiring parental supervision due to his age. His teenage duo "Devil's Train" gave him his first taste of the stage.

After studying jazz in Stavanger, Norway, Davíðsson earned a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating with an Artist Diploma — a rare distinction reserved for musicians already established in the industry. He went on to tour and record with Kaleo as their music director and key collaborator, while maintaining his independence as a solo artist.

His session work is extensive: he has contributed to recordings by Bríet, Mugison, Sierra Ferrell, and Marcus King, and shared stages with Victor Wooten, Chuck Leavell, and Peter Rowan. In 2024, he released his debut album Lifelines, composed after the sudden death of his father — an intimate, instrumental meditation on grief and memory.

He splits his time between Reykjavík and Nashville, Tennessee.
