“"Copenhagen's Powerhouse of Soul and Blues"”
ABOUT SAHRA DA SILVA
Sahra da Silva is one of the most commanding voices in Danish blues — a singer who moves between retro soul, jazz and straight blues with a range and a stage presence that critics keep reaching for the word powerhouse to describe.
Born in Copenhagen to a Portuguese father, she grew up on country, rock, classic soul and blues. She has worked professionally since 2007, reached the semi-finals of Denmark's Got Talent in 2010, and took a bachelor's degree at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory between 2011 and 2014. Her real education, she has said, came at Mojo Blues Bar in Copenhagen, the venue where she found herself as a musician.
On stage and in the studio
She has sung backing vocals for Alain Apaloo's Api Pipo, shared stages with Mike Andersen and Thorbjørn Risager, and supported Joss Stone. In 2023 she represented Denmark at the European Blues Challenge in Chorzów, Poland.
Her recordings include the EPs Sahra da Silva & The Jagged Soul (2012) and Swept Off My Stilettos (2023, on 10-inch vinyl), the album Oh, Love! (2014, with The Jagged Soul), and the solo albums #blueswoman (2020) and You Let A Good Thing Go (2023), the latter made with Laust Krudtmejer Nielsen and steeped in retro soul.
Awards
She took the Møblomania Blues Award in 2022 and the Danish Music Award Blues Hoochie Coochie Woman prize in 2023, and was named Best Live Act at the Danish Music Awards Blues in 2024. In August 2026 she received the Blues Liveprisen at the tenth DMA Blues ceremony in Randers, where the jury spoke of a singer who could make a Danish hall feel like the American South.
