KK Turns 70 — Songs, Stories and a Lifetime in Music

Icelandic music legend Kristján Kristjánsson (KK) will celebrate his 70th birthday in 2026 by hitting the road and performing around the country — and one of the key stops will be Hljómahöll on 3 September 2026.

According to the official event information, this will be “an evening full of songs, guitar and good stories” — a fitting description for an artist whose voice, songwriting and stage presence have made him one of Iceland’s most loved and recognizable musicians. Audiences can expect a night shaped by both warmth and experience, with songs that have become part of Icelandic musical memory, including Vegbúinn, Hafðu engar áhyggjur, Lucky One, Kærleikur og tími, Þjóðvegur 66 and Bein leið.

KK’s own story reflects decades of deep musical dedication. On his official website, he notes that he moved to Sweden in 1977, studied music at Fridhems Folkhögskola and later at music academies in Piteå and Malmö, graduating as a music teacher in 1990. During those years he also formed Blues Concept with Swedish musicians and released a single in 1985 — an early marker of the blues-rooted thread running through his long career.

For anyone who has followed KK through the years — or for younger listeners wanting to experience one of Iceland’s great musical storytellers live — this promises to be a special anniversary concert.

“This will be an evening full of songs, guitar and good stories.”
